The responsibility is ours

There are many issues with the electoral systems in Canada, at every level. The things which bother me most are those at the municipal tier. These are the elections which have the greatest impact on our lives, yet they seem to be the most casual of the three. After this election, the municipal by-laws regarding the election must be reviewed and rewritten. For the moment, I choose to believe in the system we use.

The best way to combat any issues is to have a HIGHER VOTER TURNOUT! The larger the sample size, the more accurate the results. A more precise outcome is typically better accepted. The responsibility for getting people to the polls is on OUR shoulders. There is no organized body to educate the voter or answer questions. That's the role of you and I.

Look around, the individuals to your left and to the right are going to help you choose the next Mayor and Council for the City of Windsor. They are going to do this in one of two ways. They are going to vote or they are going to stay home. Each person that chooses not to vote is showing support for the current Mayor and Councillor. When you consider 63% of the eligible voters stayed home in 2014, we understand why incumbents are worried about getting their supporters to the ballot box.

When change is wanted, needed, it must start with our leaders. This change can't come when we don't act and we sit on the couch. It's not enough to vote. It's our role to engage our friends and colleagues and get them to the polls. If WE don't do it, nobody will.

Bring a new voter to the polls and vote for change. WE can do this!!
