Over the weekend, our incumbent Mayor opened his campaign office. There were press and signs and balloons. Some of our sitting Council were there, as is their right. But wearing the Mayor's shirts and smiling as if victory is a sure thing? Bah!!!
This is misleading propaganda and don't believe it. The majority of our city showed their displeasure in 2014. I don't think we're any happier. Let's look at the numbers and try to understand why they are smiling.
This table only represents those Councillors/Candidates in attendance at the Mayor's campaign office opening. I'm not surprised it's the six Councillors who repeatedly vote for the Mayor's ideas, but even this group is not safe!
Councillors in Wards 1, 2, 9 and 10 should be trembling. In 2014, voters made the trip to the polls to vote against those individuals. The majority of people who voted, DID NOT want the sitting Councillor to represent them. Have these candidates done anything to change the minds of the electorate? I don't think so. Councillors in Wards 5 and 6 aren't faring much better when you look at the total number of votes up for grabs; this number assumes the same voters will vote for the incumbents. These Councillors represented a small part of the population which elected them. To hell with the rest of us!
NOW is the time for things to change. NOW is the time for us, the people, to take back our city. NOW is the time for every eligible voter to VOTE!!
There is a fantastic challenge on Facebook, 1+1= CHANGE. This challenge puts the results of the vote in OUR hands. We, the voters, have the power. We, the voters, must act. It is up to US to find those among us that don't vote. We need to find those who've turned 18 since 2014. These are the individuals that MUST get to the polls. It's our fellow citizens that can save us, not the politicians.
Please, help wipe the smile off their faces in October. VOTE!! Advance polls or wait until October 22, but VOTE!!
